I accidentally put the parking rod from a 904 into my 727? Here are the symptoms;
1 No matter how much I adjust I can not get actual park to function (not locked)
2 When backing I hear the pawl clicking
3 Neutral and drive have no clicking
4 Second and first have clicking also
I am not positive the rod I installed was the right on and after going through the archives I discovered that ther is a differance in lenght between the 904 and 727. I do not see any where that there is an adjustment from the valvebody to the pawl so I am thinking maybe some how I got the wrong one inside the tranny. Any thoughts?

Remove the shifter linkage at the trans lever. Then manually move the trans lever into Park. Then see if the car will roll. If it still will not lock, then it's either the wrong park rod or the "rooster" shifter detent on the VB has slipped, and it's out of position, or you have the wrong detent lever for the year VB you are using. Disconnecting the shifter linkage will eliminate the linkage if it's not moving the trans lever properly. John

I've personally done what you've described, you absolutly must have the correct rod for it's matching trans.

There isn't a lot of difference in the length of the 727 and 904 park rod but the shape is quite different.
In the pic below, the lower rod is the 727 and it has a distinctive joggle near the right tip. The upper rod is a 904 and has a more gentle curve.
