Found a member with some parts I need, will they fit my 71 RR 383 4 speed bench seat car?
My engine came out of a 71 Monaco. The bellhousing is a 10 1/2 inch with a small crack that was welded. Says its been fine for several years. The flywheel is a 10 1/2 130 teeth flywheel. I am not sure if it is for cast or forge crank. Will they work?

the correct bellhousing would be casting
#2892513 its aluminum, was used in all
1970-1974 B/E bodies with 383-426H-440-440+6
cars. It used a 10.95 scalloped clutch(called
a 10.5).Is your crankshaft steel or cast?
All 70-71 383s with 4 speeds used a steel
crank however 71 383s in non hp apps used
a cast crank. were the 71 cast cranks externally balanced?dont know for sure, they
might have been. You need to check to see if
the rear of your crank is drilled for the pilot bushing and for the pilot of the
4 speed input shaft. If you have a steel crank the flywheel should work, it still might not be drilled, you will have to check.

Olson- The bench/4-speed cars mounted the shifter in a different location. I have the factory piece for this adaptation, if you need it. E-mail me.

The '71 383s that were destined for 3 or 4 speed usage got a steel crank, as did the '72-'78 400s for manual transmission applications.
Mark.

yes but read his post, a 71 monaco 383 was probably an auto trans, probably a cast crank, not drilled for a 4 speed.

Yes the 383 came out of a 2 barrel Monaco with an automatic. The car is an original bench seat 4 speed car, so I don't need the hump. I have the pilot bushing for the crank. I'll have to get it drilled though. Thanks
