I want you to include all info you know as tire sizes and brand of tire used. Wheel offset or back space on the rims. And if you had to use any wheel spacers. If you needed to trim wheel well lips or massage the inner wheel wells. If you moved the springs in to the frame or used the offset spring hangers. What type of axle is under the car and if it is the stock unit or if it was changed what housing was used in your combo. And if the housing was narrowed, How much was it narrowed. This thread can be a very useful thread to all the members if you suppy as much info as you can on the combo you used. carl
A Body Here are two combos for the rear of a 74 Scamp.8 3/4 rear with moser axles narrowed to stock a body specs, with stock 6 cyl springs. #1.Centerline 14x8,center to frt 3 1/2",cent to back 4",cent thickness 3/4",tires are sears 205x75 r14. #2.Cop car 15x7 with 235x60xhr15 Goodrich ta 6h tires.Hope this helps Here are some combinations I've run on my Duster. A-Body Duster/Demon 1970 - 1972 Wheels: Small bolt pattern (5x4) stock rally wheels (14x5.5") Front: 205/70-14 (34Psi) & Rear: 235/60-14 M&H Race Masters (19Psi) Front: 205/70-14 (34Psi) & Rear: 245/60-14 (27Psi) Front: 235/60-14 (29Psi) & Rear: 245/60-14 (27Psi) MY340 Wheel offset, A-body (Duster-Demon) Chris2421 A neighbor is wanting to install 9x30 Drag slicks with a 10" wheel on his 72 Duster. What is the backspace number he will need to give to Weld when he orders the wheels.Springs in stock location and using S/S springs. Thanks!! =============================== Well I ran a 9 x 29 slick on my car w/o having to alter the wheel well openings, at least for the first set of 9 x 29's !!! the second set hit the front of the opening on both sides. But the 9 x 29 on a 10 x 15 centerline draglite with a 4-7/8's back space on a stock width axle will work, but you'll need to watch for them hitting the front of the opening. And 'may' need to tweak the opening on some slicks. And Like I said one set fit and the second set didn't. same brand of slick and same size of slick and same slick compound. And part of the reason those fit was the rim was a 10 inch rim with a 9 inch tire on it. It didn't have as much sidewall 'bulge' on the 10 inch rim as it would of had on an 8 inch rim. ==================================== Tough to say, what's the measured wheel width and tread, I run 15x10's with a 6" backspace with 295/50s no problem, clears the lip. ===================================== 6" NO WAY, your measuring it wrong. With the springs in the stock localation 4 7/8 is the maximum backspacing with stiff side walls. I run custom made cragers 15x10 with 295/50-15 B.F.Goodrich T/A's with 5" backspacing, I had to put a 1/4"spacer in there to stop the rub, I have about 3/16" clearance between the spring and sidewall. These are on a 72 Demon ================================== Correction, I have a 72 Demon but am running the inboard kit w/big axles. ==================================== I'm running 15x10's Centerline Drags on my '72 Duster in the rear and have the rims set up with 5in or "on dead centers". I have equal clearance on my SS springs and the lip of the wheelwell. I'm currently running BFG 265 50's in the rear without any problems. I believe these tires are 10.8 inches at the widest point. =================================== Would a 9 inch rim work better then?? ==================================== ive got 275/60 on 15x10 dragstars with 4 1/2 back spc.,with "minimal" clearence on inner lip ! =====================================
B Body B-body, 69 Charger R/T Ed Leung ************************************************* 70 coronet rt convertible clone. Has a dana 60 with drum brakes not altered when installed in july rims are american racing torque thrust polished aluminum 15x8.5 back, front 15x7 with 4.5 backspacing. Tires are bfgoodrich radial t/a s 225/70r15up front and 275/60r15 out back. The rears are 1/4 to wide and needed to roll the fender for speed bumps and pot holes. Would have gone 275/70r15s had I known the rims where 15x8.5 instead of the 15x8.0 I thought I ordered.the new tires and rims make the car. It changes the whole look will try to post a picture soon ... jim My '70 Bee post car runs cop car wheels(15x7,4.5" back space)245/60's up front and 275/60's in the rear no rubbing ever. 66 Ply Belv 1 B-Body, 15x7 cop wheels, 4.5" back spacing, 2-25-70x15 all the way around, close but no rubbing. 1965 Coronet with Goodyear Gatorbacks, 225/60-15 up front and 255/60-15 in the rear. Wheels are 15x7 and 15x8. Backspacing is 4.50 up front and 5.0 in the rear. This setup fits perfect and looks great. The 17 inch stuff is 235/45-17 up front and 275/40-17 in the rear. Mounted on 17x8 and 17x10 wheels. Springs have been moved into the frame to clear these rims. No sheetmetal work required up front, but I did swap upper ball joints over to the stock style with the flat top to gain clearance 68 GTX Works great Josh 68 Coronet in stock form Rear: Cragar SS 14x7 Reverse Offset, 245/60/14's No rubbing at all. Rear: Cragar SS 14x7 Reverse Offset, 245/60/14's No rubbing at all. I'd like to point out the importance of proper backspace measurement. I've seen police wheels listed as 4.5" BS and that isn't true. Backspace should be measured from the bead (not the outer lip) to the area that contacts the hub/rotor/drum. Using this measuring system, cop wheels come out as 4" backspace. Those wheels themselves are 15x7, for anyone who may not know. Anyway here are a couple I know work- Rear combo: Tires: 275/60/15 Radial TAs--- no clearance problems on either side. There is enough room for stock outer wheelwells, but just barely. Front combo:
Same car: 66-67 Dodge and Plymouth B bodies and 76-80 Dodge and Plymouth F I run an 8 and 3/4 stock rear-end Jesse
C Body 65 Sport Fury, if you want to run a 275/60-15 tire on a 15x8 rim, order rims with a 5 inch backspace (EDIT: I have the standard 4.5 inch backspacing) If you do not, the tires will be cut by the wheel well lip and/or rub the upper fenderwell. The only other alternative is to raise the rear for clearance. If you look at the pics of my Fury you can see it is all the way to the outer side of the wheel well. With proper backspacing I think a tire up to two inchs wider would fit. I hopefully will find out for sure!
E Body This tire and wheel combo should work on any unmodified Ebody.
